FACT: Waiting to apply for financial aid until after you have been accepted to one of your college choices is a huge mistake. Most financial aid is awarded to eligible students on a first-come, first-served basis until all the money for that specific financial aid program has been given away.
Most scholarship and financial aid application deadlines are before college admission letters are mailed or emailed to students, which usually occurs during the spring months of March and April. And if you wait until March or April to apply for financial aid, you would have missed the deadline dates for state and school-sponsored financial aid programs and private scholarships that you may have been eligible to receive and or apply for.
If you want to increase your chances of receiving the financial aid you need to help you pay for your college education, it is important that you start applying for scholarships and financial aid at the beginning of your senior year of high school.
